I was awarded first place for this project at the University of Idaho College of Graduate Studies Innovation Showcase competition 2016.
A look into avant-garde fashion and design and how its innovative techniques and styles are important to the evolution of everyday fashion. Avant-garde fashion is experimental and often times executed with unconventional materials and constructed in innovative ways. Avant-garde designers take risks with their exaggerated designs that evolve from runway to everyday designs.
I was inspired by a look I saw on Project Runway, and decided to challenge myself to try and recreate an outfit with similar materials, but with my own unique approach. I designed and constructed a bodice and skirt made from deconstructed sombrero hats, hand sewn to a draped boned bodice and 6-gore skirt pattern that I made. The bodice has snap closures on the center back, and the skirt has a zipper closure on the center back.
